I was hoping to post a reminder about this, but in light of COVID-19, another event will be postponed until the dust settles, the kids go back to school, and another time can be arranged.

February PTA Meeting Information
Join us for our PTA Meeting on Tuesday, February 11 at 7:00 in the Cafeteria (note the new location).
Sezin Palmer, candidate for the Board of Education for District 4, will be in attendance to get a sense of the specific issues and needs of the CES community. She will also be available to answer audience questions.
Under PTA policy, we will provide an equal opportunity to District 4 and District 5 candidates for the Board of Education to attend future PTA meetings that are similar in time, venue and presentation format. Pursuant to PTA policy, this is not an endorsement of any particular candidate and we look forward to meeting other candidates for the Board of Education.

Isaac Gill
On Monday, a little boy and his mother were using the crosswalk when they were hit by a vehicle here in Columbia. In a world that makes so little sense as it is, this little boy, Isaac Gill, lost his life. Isaac was a kindergartner who attended Longfellow Elementary school. With his parents and extended family, he attended Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Both communities are reeling and in pain and completely at a loss of what to do. But they do know Isaac’s parents need our help. There will be funeral, medical, and loss of work costs, as well as additional costs as the family heals.
CMPC has told the family they will cover the funeral costs, as well as support them with additional costs. Here is the link to aid the church in supporting the family:

The Longfellow PTA wish to support this family as well:

On a personal note, as a widow, when people donated money, it was one less thing to worry about. It’s hard to think in this kind of situation, when it feels like the world is spinning around you. But what helped me more is that with each donation, someone was thinking of me. Someone wanted to help. And even 7 years later, that support helped me know that I could go on, that the people around me and strangers alike cared.
This is a helpless situation for everyone. There is nothing we can do to make this family whole again, but this gives us something, anything, to show we are here, and we care.
The Clarksville PTA would like to extend its most deep-felt sympathies to Isaac’s family and friends.

Cookie Fun
Last night, 15 children had the help of “I’m the Chef, Too!” to make snow globe cookies from scratch. They made their own dough and cut them into shape. While the cookies were baking, the kids worked with fondant to fashion the “water” to home a gingerbread man, snowman, or Christmas tree. The cookies did not stay on this earth for long, however, as each one was gobbled up, in most cases before the parent arrived to pick up their child!

Meeting Notes
As a PTA member, you are not required to attend meetings. However, meetings provide a chance for you to voice concerns, become part of the community of parents, and learn about events, volunteer opportunities, and school announcements. Our principal attends these meetings and we invite important guests to speak to us about what we care about.
If you do miss meetings and want to know what you missed, all the meeting minutes are kept on the About PTA page.
