Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Poster Contest

The Howard County Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission encourages all eligible Elementary School students to participate in its annual poster contest, recognizing the importance of racial equality and the fight against injustice. (Middle School and High School students are eligible to enter the essay and oratory contest.)

The theme for this year’s contest is:
“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

For contest rules, submission guidelines and the writeable contest application form, CLICK HERE, or go to https://www.howardcountymd.gov/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=zIYvhD_dW0A%3d&portalid=0.

Applications must be received by 10/30/20. Winners will also be featured in the HopeWorks magazine and on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission website.

2020-2021 PTA Reflections Program

The PTA Reflections Program is a wonderful opportunity for students to enjoy and share their artistic talents by creating original artwork that reflects on this year’s theme, “I Matter Because…” Students can choose to take a picture, write a poem or story, create a piece of visual art, choreograph a dance, compose a song, or produce a film that shares their ideas of who they are and how they view the world around them.  Entries will be selected to advance to the county, state, or even national level.  Details for getting started can be found on the PTA website at https://cespta.net/programs/

Free Vaccine Clinics for Students

Immunizations are required by state law to attend school, including virtually, and are vital for children’s overall health and wellness. HCPSS Health Services continues to partner with the Howard County Health Department and the Maryland Partnership for Prevention to offer several free immunization clinics for any student who may need them.
