Howard County classes offered after school

These classes are offered through Howard County parks and recreation. To Register, you can call 410-313-7275 (open 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday) or go online and search on the RP Number.

KidzArt After School

Enjoy a fun, unique, confidence-building, art experience. This drawingbased
curriculum delivers engaging and educationally rich, creative
experiences that amaze and delight. Create a masterpiece each week.
Explore artist-grade mediums (Prismacolor ArtStix, Oil Pastels, Chalk Pastels, Charcoal,
Watercolor, Clay, Copper, Textured Papers and more)! Materials included in registration
fee. (No class 11/22, 12/27.)

Musical Theatre Disney’s Aristo CATS by DLC

High-society cat Duchess and her kittens’ butler pulls off a catnapping. Now
alley cat, Thomas O’Malley and his swingin’ jazz cats need to save the day.
Sing, dance, act, and work together towards a final performance for family
and friends. Meet weekly for 8 classes, have 2 dress rehearsals and a final, evening performance.

Learn Now Music After School

Learn Now Music’s mission is “to create a positive, musical experience for all of our
students”! Participate in musical instruction and theory. Enjoy musical games, curriculum based
activities, listening excerpts, and more! You can borrow a rental instrument and materials each session at no cost. A rental agreement must be signed at the first class. (No class on half days or when school is not in session.)

Kid Empowerment: P.E.T Power!

Reach your full potential! At this fun, hands-on program, learn
to create Positive Empowering Thoughts (P.E.T.s) that chase away
Automatic Non-supportive Thoughts (A.N.T.s)! Build resilience,
confidence and essential life skills through engaging activities and charming animations.
Unleash your P.E.T. Power sooner rather than later! Get your own stuffed pet and earn
special P.E.T. tags. New and returning students welcome. Bring a nut-free snack to be eaten
while supervised between school dismissal and when class begins. $25 materials fee
per student due at first class. (No class on half days or when school is not in session.)

Kiddie Basketball

Come learn the sport of basketball in this perfect introductory clinic. Players work on the
fundamental skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, and overall team play in a fun and
encouraging environment. Meet in the gym. (No class 9/21, 11/23.)

After-School Dodgeball

This is a great way for all ability levels to stay active, be a part of a team, and have fun!
Learn and play variations of dodgeball. Worried about safety? We use foam balls (gator
skin) that are designed for accuracy and minimize the risk of injury. Meet coaches in the
gym. (No class 11/22.)

Floor Hockey

Come learn how to play hockey! This first-time/beginner level class does not involve checking.
Learn and improve skills, including puck/ball control, passing, shooting, teamwork and

Time for tennis! Learn and practice basic tennis skills in this program taught by trained
coaches. Classes include a variety of enjoyable drills and exciting games.

After-School Tennis

Have fun while you learn the basics or fine-tune your skills in this program taught by
trained coaches. Classes include a variety of drills and games and an introduction to match
play. Meet in front of school office; coach esescort players to tennis courts.

Western Howard County Youth Baseball & Softball League (WHCYBSL)

WHCYBSL provides tee ball, baseball and fast pitch softball leagues to
families in Western Howard County, Columbia, and Clarksville. Howard County Recreation &
Parks is contracted to provide administrative services to WHCYBSL.

Fall Baseball

Continue to fine tune your baseball skills with WHC Fall Baseball! The fall schedule consists
of one practice per week (specific night depends on coach/ team placement) and games to
be held on Sunday. All players receive a team jersey, hat and socks. Baseball players are required to provide/wear gray baseball pants, cleats and a glove. Opening Day is September
10; the season ends on October 29. Game locations are primarily at Western Regional Park,
but are also held at other Howard County locations.

Continue to fine tune your softball skills with WHC Fall Fast Pitch Softball! The fall schedule
consists of one practice per week (specific night depends on coach/team placement) and
games to be held on Saturday. All players receive a team jersey, hat and socks. Softball
players provide their own pants (color determined by coach), cleats and a glove. Bats and
softball helmets are provided in the team equipment; a personal bat/helmet are optional.
Opening Day is September 9; the season ends on October 29. Game locations are primarily
at Western Regional Park but are also held at other Howard County locations.

Roller Coaster Engineering

When: 7 sessions –Wednesdays: 09/27, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25,
11/1, 11/8, 11/15 (no class 10/4)
Time: 4:05-5:00
Who: Grades 2-5
Why: To have fun!
Cost: $140
Deadline: September 22nd by 4:00 pm

Have you ever wanted wondered how roller coasters are built? Are you interested in creating your own basic, miniature rollercoaster models? Here’s your chance! Participants will learn about the different factors affecting the motion and speed in roller coasters by designing and building their own miniature versions. Download this form and return it to your child’s teacher.

Rube Goldberg Challenge

When: 25 sessions –Mondays: 10/02- 04/30 (no class 11/20, 01/15, 02/19, or during Winter/Spring Break)
Time: 4:05-5:00
Who: Grades 4-5
Why: To learn about simple machines and STEM! Cost: $300
Deadline: September 22nd by 4:00 pm
As part of the A+ Partners in Education initiative, HCLS and HCPSS present the Rube Goldberg Challenge. The contest is offered to school teams comprised of fourth and fifth grade Howard
County students. The students transform everyday materials into a wacky innovative machine that accomplishes a given task. FULL

After School Program DRAMA The King and I

What: The King and I
Where: Clarksville Elementary School – Band Room
When: 14 sessions -Tuesdays – 09/26, 10/03, 10/10, 10/17,
10/24, 11/07, 11/14, 11/28, 12/05 Other dates: Monday 10/30
Monday & Tuesday 12/11 & 12/12 (4:05-6:30)
Wednesday & Thursday 12/13 & 12/14 (6:00-9:00) Time: 4:05-6:00 (2 hrs) on Tuesday sessions
Who: Grades 2-5
Why: To have fun!

Are you interested in acting? Do you love costumes? Is singing your passion? Do you want to be part of an amazing and classic musical? This year, we are excited to have The King and I, a musical production at CES. FULL

Cool Crafts

When: 6 sessions –Thursdays: 10/05- 11/9
Session Dates are: 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/02, 11/09
Time: 4:05-5:00
Who: Grades K-5
Why: Students can use their imaginations to be creative
and express themselves by using different art and
craft techniques.
Cost: $120
Deadline: September 22nd by 4:00 pm
Ready to get creative and have lots of fun? Join Cool Crafts for colorful creativity. We will be using all sorts of art mediums to make a variety of arts and crafts. All supplies included. Download this form and return it to your child’s teacher.

Chess

When: Club meets every Friday that school is in
session star ng 10/6 and ending 1/19. (No meetings on 10/20, 11/10, 11/24 and 12/29). 4-5pm.
Who: Grades K-5
Cost: $173 for 12 weeks
Chess club is taught by experienced Silver Knights instructors using a curriculum developed by National Masters. Each weekly session is a mix of learning and play.
